The YPN Perspective: Traditional Marketing in a Digital World

As a marketing agency, we are constantly evolving to keep up with the trends of a digital world. Let’s face it; consumers get their information differently and in more ways than ever before. Businesses are fully embracing social media, search engine optimization, and countless other inbound marketing techniques in an effort to win the attention today’s consumers.
Young professionals are among the savviest of consumers, but businesses shouldn’t be fooled – traditional marketing has its place even among Gen Xers. Chambers of Commerce are a perfect example of traditional marketing that works. Next time you go to a Chamber Luncheon, look around you – I’d bet that majority of the Members there would be able to point out one more other people in the room that they do business with. It’s the old adage; people like to do business with people they know.
Chamber events, networking groups, and committees (including YPN) are great ways to get to know people in our community, and translate into great opportunities for you to do business. In the world of everything digital, a handshake still goes a long way. So, while businesses should continue to evolve with technology and incorporate the advantages of digital marketing, it should be done in conjunction with traditional marketing. The best marketing plans have a healthy balance of both.
